Proving the right to rent – BRP’s for non UK nationals
Biometric Residence Permits, or BRPs - previously acceptable documents are being phased out and can no longer be used as physical proof of someone's right to rent in the UK, as landlords must now verify immigration status online using a share code provided by the tenant instead of checking the physical BRP card.

Only one region recorded a decline in the cost of rent. The East Midlands saw costs drop by 1.08%.
The highest prices are found in Greater London, where the average cost of a rental property is now £1,965 per month.
Rental costs have risen for six consecutive months, with prices now at their highest level recorded since September 2022. The highest average rents last year were recorded in September, when costs hit a peak of £1,249.

Teignbridge Council is responsible for ensuring compliance with MEES. As well as challenging exemptions registered on the PRS exemption register we are using National EPC databases and a range of other data sources to help identify properties being let with EPC ratings of F and G.
Landlords who are found to be in breach of the legislation will be issued with compliance notices and may face possible financial penalties of up to the maximum £5K.

Government is proposing to raise the minimum energy efficiency standard required of privately rented homes in England and Wales to the equivalent of Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) C by 2030.
